Huddersfield Town are preparing to launch a bid for Bolton Wanderers skipper George Thomason, according to reports from Alan Nixon.

The 24-year-old midfielder has emerged as a top target for the Terriers this summer, with the club initially monitoring Preston’s Brad Potts before switching focus to the Bolton captain. Huddersfield are expected to open with a £750,000 bid, though Wanderers are likely to demand a higher fee.

Thomason has developed into a key figure at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, making over 150 appearances since arriving from non-league Longridge Town. He was handed the captain’s armband just weeks into the 2024/25 season by Ian Evatt, but endured a challenging campaign as Bolton missed out on a top-six finish.

With Steven Schumacher now in charge at Bolton, and Huddersfield boss Lee Grant eager to add leadership and steel to his midfield, Thomason is seen as a player who fits the long-term profile for the John Smith’s Stadium side.

Two years ago, Bolton accepted a £1 million offer from Bristol City for the midfielder, which Thomason turned down in favour of staying with the Trotters. But with Huddersfield now circling, a fresh approach may prove more tempting this time around.

Thomason’s 2024/25 League One season saw him register 4 goals and 3 assists in 38 appearances, following a standout 2023/24 where he contributed 6 goals and 6 assists from midfield.

With proven experience in the third tier and leadership credentials already established, Thomason could prove to be a cornerstone signing for Huddersfield’s rebuild — if they can match Bolton’s valuation.
