Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign 17-year-old striker Will Wright from Salford City, according to reports from Mail Sport.
The Gunners have moved ahead of rivals Liverpool by tabling a £200,000 offer plus further performance-based add-ons. Personal terms are still to be finalised, but Arsenal are expected to hold talks with the player’s camp in the coming days.
Wright has impressed heavily during Salford’s pre-season, netting four goals in three matches, including one in the recently abandoned friendly against York City — a game that was attended by Arsenal scouts.
Liverpool were previously considered favourites, having offered £100,000 plus add-ons, but Arsenal’s improved bid appears to have swung the momentum.
The teenage striker, who has yet to make his full league debut, is regarded as one of the brightest talents to emerge from Salford’s academy setup.
Should the deal be completed, Wright would likely link up with Arsenal’s U21s initially, but the club sees long-term potential in the forward as part of their academy-to-first-team pathway.
