Wycombe Wanderers have confirmed the loan signing of highly-rated Tottenham Hotspur midfielder George Abbott, who joins the club on a season-long deal for the 2025/26 campaign.

The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakout year in League Two with Notts County last season, winning the EFL Goal of the Season award and earning a nomination for League Two Young Player of the Year. He now steps up to League One with Wycombe, adding further technical quality and depth to Mike Dodds’ evolving midfield setup.

Abbott will wear the number 30 shirt and is available for selection ahead of Saturday’s home clash against Stockport County at Adams Park.

Youth Pedigree and First-Team Credentials

Abbott has long been considered one of Tottenham’s brightest academy talents. After coming through the youth ranks with Brentford and Watford, he joined Spurs in 2023 and captained their U21 side to the Premier League 2 title in 2023/24.

He also has two caps for England U19s and made his senior Spurs debut at just 17 years old, coming off the bench against Leeds United.

Head Coach Mike Dodds on the Signing

“George is a really exciting player in the middle of the park and we’re delighted that he’s made the decision to come here over other clubs to continue his progress in his career.

He had an excellent loan spell last season and is a player we’ve known about for a long time in youth football, so to bring him here is another really positive step forward in our recruitment this summer.”

Tactical Fit and Technical Upside

Abbott caught the eye at Notts County not only for his energy and ball-winning but also for his vision, positional intelligence, and technical ability. He’s capable of playing as both a defensive no.6 and a box-to-box no.8, giving Wycombe greater tactical flexibility in midfield.

Tom Stockwell, Director of Football Strategy and Data Intelligence, added:

“George gives us another option in the strong midfield group we already have here at the club. His high level of technical quality aligns with the brand of football we are looking to play with this season.”
