Middlesbrough have confirmed the signing of full-back Callum Brittain from Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers for an undisclosed fee.
The 27-year-old has signed a four-year contract at the Riverside Stadium, becoming Rob Edwards’ third senior addition of the summer following the arrivals of Abdoulaye Kante and Alfie Jones.
Brittain brings vast experience to the Boro squad, having made over 300 career appearances across spells with MK Dons, Barnsley and Blackburn. His reliability, attacking intent and defensive work rate made him a consistent presence during his three seasons at Ewood Park.

A Championship Mainstay
Brittain has been one of the more consistent full-backs in the Championship over recent years. After joining Blackburn from Barnsley in 2022, he quickly became a regular in the side and went on to make 113 appearances for Rovers in all competitions.
In 2024/25, he played a key role under John Eustace, featuring in 41 league matches as Rovers narrowly avoided relegation. His blend of energy and positional awareness made him a key outlet on the right flank.

“Right Time to Take the Next Step”
Speaking to club media, Brittain expressed his excitement about joining Boro:
“It was the right time for me to make the next step in my career, and I’m excited to be here.
I had a really good chat with the gaffer about how he wants to play and his ambition while he’s here, and it’s clearly an environment where everyone is pulling in the same direction.
I can’t wait to get going.”

A Smart Addition for Edwards
Manager Rob Edwards continues to reshape his squad with players of proven Championship quality, and Brittain fits the bill perfectly. A versatile full-back who can also operate in more advanced roles, his arrival strengthens Boro’s defensive options and adds attacking balance on the right flank.
With pre-season winding down and the 2025/26 campaign on the horizon, Brittain’s addition comes at a crucial time as Boro look to mount a strong promotion push.
