Huddersfield Town have completed the signing of former Stoke City and Sunderland utility man Lynden Gooch on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old American underwent a medical on 14 July 2025, and has now officially joined the Terriers ahead of their 2025/26 League One campaign.

Gooch spent the last two seasons with Stoke City, making 53 appearances and scoring 2 goals in all competitions. He becomes the ninth signing of the summer for new manager Lee Grant, as the club continues an ambitious rebuild aimed at mounting a serious promotion challenge.

A four-cap USA international, Gooch also made 247 appearances for Sunderland, playing key roles as both a winger and a full-back. He helped the Black Cats earn promotion from League One via the play-offs in 2021/22.

His versatility will be a major asset for Huddersfield. Capable of playing on either wing or as a wing-back, Gooch fits Grant’s evolving system — whether the new manager opts for a back three or four.

Huddersfield have already secured deals for the likes of Ben Sheaf, Luca Connell, Lyndon Dykes, and Michael Hector, with Gooch bringing further EFL pedigree and balance to the squad.
