Leyton Orient have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Tommy Simkin on a season-long loan from Stoke City.

The 20-year-old arrives at Brisbane Road following an impressive 2024/25 season with Walsall, where he made 47 appearances and played a pivotal role in helping the Saddlers reach the League Two play-off final.

Simkin was also part of the England U21 squad that lifted the European Championship this summer, underlining his growing reputation as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in the country.

🗣️ Richie Wellens, Leyton Orient Head Coach:

“I’m delighted to get Tommy in. He’s really highly rated by his parent club and he had a great time at Walsall last season. Of all the goalkeepers available to us this summer – on a permanent deal or a loan – Tommy was the one we wanted.”

🧤 Simon Royce, Goalkeeping Coach:

“Tommy is a brilliant young goalkeeper who has a wise head on young shoulders. He’s a good size, has great attributes and making the step up to League One is something he deserves.”

🧠 Martin Ling, Director of Football:

“We’ve gone down the loan route again because we rate him incredibly highly. He had a lot of offers this summer and we’re delighted he chose us.”

Simkin joined Stoke City as a youth player and has gained senior experience on loan at FyldeSolihull MoorsForest Green Rovers, and most recently Walsall, where he established himself as a first-choice keeper.

He is expected to feature in one of Orient’s remaining pre-season fixtures as he begins preparations for the 2025/26 Sky Bet League One campaign.
