Northampton Town have confirmed the arrival of defender Jordan Thorniley on a season-long loan from Oxford United.

The 28-year-old becomes the Cobblers’ 11th signing of the summer and the first to join on a temporary deal. Thorniley joined Oxford in 2023 from Blackpool but found minutes hard to come by last season, making just four appearances in all competitions.

A product of Everton’s academy, the experienced left-sided centre-back has also featured for Sheffield Wednesday and Blackpool, along with loan spells at Stockport and Accrington Stanley.

Cobblers boss Kevin Nolan said:

“He’ll bring balance, experience, and quality on the ball with that lovely left foot. He had a number of options, so we’re delighted he chose us. He fits the culture we’re building and will improve us in possession.”

Thorniley will add Championship and League One pedigree to Northampton’s defensive unit ahead of their new campaign.
