Swindon Town are closing in on their 11th signing of the summer transfer window, with 20-year-old Burnley forward Joe Westley poised to return to the County Ground on a season-long loan.
Westley, who spent last season with the Robins, is expected to rejoin under Ian Holloway as the club aims to build on a busy and ambitious summer. The deal is said to be close, according to Alan Nixon, with Holloway himself recently expressing hope that Westley would return.
A Second Chance for Westley
The youngster’s first loan spell at Swindon during the 2024/25 season was limited in minutes but showed flashes of promise. Despite making only 17 appearances — three of them starts — Westley managed to score three goals in just 492 minutes of football.
His minutes were scattered across the campaign, and while he didn’t register an assist or create a big chance, his attitude and work ethic reportedly left a strong impression on Holloway and his staff.
What Swindon Are Getting
Though Westley didn’t fully establish himself last season, he brings energy, pressing intensity, and a nose for goal. With Holloway now at the helm and Swindon undergoing a tactical reshuffle, the environment may be more conducive to Westley’s development.
His return could be seen as a calculated risk — a chance to see if greater responsibility and a consistent role will bring out the talent that Burnley clearly believe he possesses.
