Ipswich Town have reached an agreement with Serie A side Napoli to re-sign Swedish midfielder Jens Cajuste on a season-long loan, according to Fabrizio Romano. The deal includes a £1.7m loan fee and a £6.4m obligation to buy if Ipswich secure promotion to the Premier League in 2025/26.
Cajuste, 25, returns to Portman Road after an impressive first spell with the club last season and is now poised to be a key part of Kieran McKenna’s push for an immediate top-flight return.
Promotion clause triggers permanent move
After a proposed transfer to Turkish side Beşiktaş collapsed, Ipswich moved swiftly to finalise an agreement with Napoli. The new loan structure gives Ipswich the chance to sign Cajuste permanently should they achieve promotion this season.
The Swedish international made 33 appearances in all competitions during his first spell with the Tractor Boys and became a mainstay in McKenna’s midfield setup.
A vital piece in midfield
Cajuste’s defensive instincts, tidy distribution and positional discipline made him a fan favourite at Portman Road. His return comes at a crucial time, with Massimo Luongo, Cameron Burgess and Marcus Harness having all departed this summer, and a deal for Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney falling through.
The 25-year-old is now expected to form a midfield partnership with new arrival Azor Matusiwa, creating a strong defensive shield and distribution base in Ipswich’s Championship title push.
