Hull City have completed the signing of Scotland international Oli McBurnie, with the striker finalizing the deal after receiving EFL approval.
The Tigers have been operating under a transfer embargo since early July, following late payments to Aston Villa over a loan deal last season. But with the club now awaiting the outcome of an appeal, the EFL has granted permission for McBurnie to sign — a potential sign of optimism ahead of that hearing.
Tigers Win Race for McBurnie
McBurnie had attracted interest from several Championship clubs, including Ipswich Town, Sheffield United, and Swansea City. Ipswich made an approach but are believed to have shifted focus elsewhere, while both of McBurnie’s former clubs offered him deals.
However, Hull’s persistence has paid off, and according to Alan Nixon, the 29-year-old free agent has now agreed to join the Tigers.
McBurnie left Spanish side Las Palmas earlier this summer by mutual consent, following their relegation from La Liga. He had joined them in 2024 after five seasons at Sheffield United.
Goals Needed at the MKM Stadium
Hull struggled for goals last season, narrowly avoiding relegation after finishing 21st in the Championship. Adding a striker with proven experience at this level has been a top priority.
McBurnie brings a physical presence, aerial threat, and familiarity with English football — and he will reunite with former teammate John Lundstram in East Yorkshire.
