Hull City have agreed to sign former Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams on a permanent contract following an impressive trial at the MKM Stadium.
The 24-year-old, who left Manchester United in the summer of 2024, has been a free agent for over a year. After a challenging period away from professional football, including a suspended jail sentence handed down earlier this year for a driving offence, Williams is now on the verge of reigniting his career in the Championship.
Return to Action
Williams made two appearances during Hull’s pre-season friendlies—first against Sunderland and then as a substitute in a goalless draw with La Liga side Getafe. He featured primarily at right-back, showcasing his trademark energy and positional versatility that once saw him break into the first team at Old Trafford.
Head coach Sergej Jakirovic has been publicly supportive of Williams’ efforts during the trial. Speaking to local media, Jakirovic said:
“I like to help people because everyone deserves a second chance in life. I spoke with him very honestly and explained what I expect. We’ll be careful and slow with his integration, but I believe his mentality is good and the quality is there.”
The Bosnian boss added that Williams had expressed a strong desire to play and had been working hard to return to full fitness.

From United to Unattached
A product of Manchester United’s academy, Williams made 51 senior appearances for the Red Devils. He last played competitively for Ipswich Town while on loan during the 2023/24 season, making his final appearance against QPR in December 2023.
After leaving United in 2024, Williams was unable to secure a new club during the 2024/25 season, spending time training privately and rebuilding his physical condition.
Rebuilding and Redemption
The decision by Hull City to offer Williams a permanent deal signals a vote of confidence in his ability to bounce back. The club believes that under Jakirovic’s guidance, the full-back can return to the levels that once made him a Premier League regular.
Williams’ signing will also offer competition and depth to Hull’s full-back positions, especially with the Championship campaign just getting underway.
“His desire is there, and so is the hard work,” added Jakirovic. “We left him in Hull to carry on training, and so far, everything has gone according to plan.”
