Huddersfield Town have confirmed the permanent signing of midfielder Marcus McGuane from Bristol City on a three-year deal, becoming their 11th addition of a busy summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old joins for an undisclosed fee and is the second central midfielder signed this summer following Ryan Ledson’s arrival. McGuane brings both Championship experience and a promotion-winning pedigree, having played a key role in Oxford United’s rise to the second tier in 2023/24.
From Arsenal to Huddersfield via Barcelona and Oxford
McGuane’s career to date has been nothing short of unique. A product of Arsenal’s academy, he made senior appearances in the Europa League before moving to Barcelona B in 2018, becoming the first Englishman to represent Barcelona’s senior side since Gary Lineker when he appeared in the Supercopa de Catalunya.
Following a loan to Dutch side Telstar and a stint with Nottingham Forest, he found stability with Oxford United. Across four seasons at the Kassam Stadium, McGuane made 140 League One appearances, registering one goal and 10 assists, and was pivotal in their 2023/24 promotion campaign.
After a brief spell at Bristol City—where he featured in 24 games across all competitions—McGuane now makes the move to West Yorkshire.
Comments from the Club
Huddersfield manager Lee Grant said:
“Marcus has the right profile, pedigree and hunger to come into our group and be a positive influence both on and off the pitch.
“He’s a creative, committed and capable presence in the centre of the pitch, and he has the knowledge of how to be successful in this division. We couldn’t be happier to have him here.”
McGuane also expressed his excitement:
“I’m really happy to have this move complete. From the moment I spoke to the manager and heard about the ambition here, I knew it was the right place for me.”

Key FotMob Stats – 2024/25 Championship:
