Blackpool FC have won the race to sign Danny Imray on a season-long loan from Crystal Palace, beating off strong competition from League One rivals Bolton Wanderers and Huddersfield Town.

The 21-year-old full-back is set to undergo a medical imminently, with the deal now agreed and formalities close to completion.

Imray’s availability triggered a three-way battle among ambitious League One sides. BoltonBlackpool, and Huddersfield all made approaches in recent weeks, according to journalist Alan Nixon, with Huddersfield even exploring a possible permanent deal.

All three clubs are aiming to break into the top six this season after finishing 8th, 9th, and 10th respectively in 2024/25 — each missing out on the play-offs by a margin of 10+ points. Managers Steven SchumacherSteve Bruce, and Lee Grant all viewed Imray as a key option to strengthen their right flank.

Imray, who joined Palace from Chelmsford City in 2021, is coming off an impressive season on loan at Bromley, where he played 39 times, scoring 1 goal and providing 5 assists across 3,207 minutes in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

His versatility stood out — operating both as a right wing-back and an advanced right-winger. His pace, ball-carrying, and attacking instincts made him a consistent threat in League Two, earning praise for his fitness, overlapping movement, and defensive recovery.

For Palace, a step up to League One represents a natural progression. The loan move provides a higher-level test for a player still seen as part of the long-term picture at Selhurst Park.

For Blackpool, this is a major win — and a signal of intent under Steve Bruce. With several new faces already through the door, the Seasiders are building a squad with clear promotion ambitions.
