Chesterfield manager Paul Cook has confirmed that central midfielder Luke Butterfield will be signing permanently following a successful trial.

The 21-year-old former Everton youngster has featured for the Spireites throughout pre-season and impressed sufficiently to earn a deal. Butterfield became a free agent after leaving Everton earlier this summer.

Originally joining Everton’s academy from Blackburn Rovers in 2014, Butterfield signed his first professional contract at Goodison Park in 2020, later extending his stay until summer 2025. The midfielder has also represented Scotland at youth international level.

Butterfield’s arrival bolsters Chesterfield’s midfield options following the recent departures of Ollie Banks and Darren Oldaker.
