Burton Albion have strengthened their defensive ranks with the signing of Ugandan international Toby Sibbick from Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee.
The 26-year-old arrives at the Pirelli Stadium on a two-year deal, with the option of a further 12 months.
Sibbick brings a wealth of experience across the EFL and Scottish Premiership, having previously featured for AFC Wimbledon, Barnsley, Hearts, and Wigan. Last season, he made 31 appearances for the Latics in Sky Bet League One, including 22 starts.
Head Coach Gary Bowyer was full of praise for the versatile defender:
“Firstly, a big thank you to our owners for the support in getting Toby in and to Wigan for their help in getting the deal done.
I have followed Toby’s career closely — I saw him playing for Hearts when I was managing Dundee and have always loved how he plays.
He’ll add physicality to our back line with his size and pace, and his ability to defend duels will help with how we want to play this year.”
Sibbick made his professional debut for AFC Wimbledon in 2017 before earning a move to Barnsley in 2019, where he helped the Tykes reach the Championship play-offs in 2020/21. He also gained European experience during his time with Hearts, where he made 88 appearances.
Internationally, Sibbick made his debut for Uganda in March 2024 and now has two caps to his name.
This marks another important addition as Burton prepare for the 2025/26 League One campaign.
