Bradford City have completed the permanent signing of midfielder Jenson Metcalfe from Everton on a three-year deal, with the 20-year-old becoming the Bantams’ latest summer addition.

Metcalfe arrives at Valley Parade for an undisclosed fee, having spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Chesterfield in League Two. The move ends a 15-year stay at Everton, where he progressed through the ranks after joining their academy at the age of five.

Despite being highly rated within the Everton setup and earning a four-year professional deal in 2022 following a recovery from a serious cruciate ligament injury, Metcalfe never made a senior competitive appearance for the Toffees. He was an unused substitute in a handful of Premier League games, including the club’s historic final season opener at Goodison Park.

He now links up with Graham Alexander’s newly-promoted Bradford side, who are preparing for life back in League One after finishing third in League Two last term.

“I am so happy to join the club and I am especially looking forward to spending at least three years here, hopefully,” Metcalfe told club media.

“I cannot wait to meet all the supporters and it is really exciting when you see the number of fans the club has and the atmosphere that they create.”

Manager Graham Alexander was equally positive about the signing:

“Jenson is a player with big potential and will bring extra competition to our midfield. His attributes in and out of possession suit our game very well, so we look forward to seeing him integrate into life at Bradford City.”

Metcalfe will bolster options in central midfield for the Bantams, with his energetic style and defensive awareness expected to complement the club’s more advanced options.
