FC Porto have completed the signing of Borja Sainz from Norwich City in a deal worth £14.25 million, with the Spanish winger signing a five-year contract with the Portuguese giants.

The 24-year-old departs Carrow Road after two standout seasons, including a blistering 2024/25 campaign that saw him finish as the Canaries’ top scorer with 18 Championship goals, despite missing six matches through suspension.

Sainz joined Norwich from Giresunspor in June 2023 and quickly established himself as one of the Championship’s most dangerous wide men. He scored on his debut against Fulham in the EFL Cup and produced several standout performances, including two hat-tricks against Derby County and Plymouth Argyle.

His campaign peaked early with 16 goals in his first 20 appearances, but a six-game suspension for a spitting incident against Sunderland’s Chris Mepham halted his momentum. He apologised publicly and later added two more goals to finish the season second in the league scoring charts behind Leeds’ Joel Piroe.

Despite the disciplinary setback, his overall contribution earned praise from Norwich sporting director Ben Knapper, who called him “the deciding factor in many of our games.”

New head coach Liam Manning also called the move a “terrific deal” that allows the club to reinvest in strengthening the squad. Denmark international Mathias Kvistgaarden has already arrived, and more additions are expected in the coming weeks.

Sainz’s move to Portugal marks the next step in a promising career that began in Spain and now sees him join one of Europe’s top clubs.
