Millwall are closing in on the signing of Luton Town wing-back Alfie Doughty, with the 25-year-old set to undergo a medical ahead of a permanent move to The Den.
A deal has been struck between the two clubs, and the move is expected to be completed in the coming days as Alex Neil’s side continue to strengthen for a Championship promotion push.
Doughty was withdrawn from Luton’s starting XI in Saturday’s friendly against Tottenham amid growing speculation, and boss Matt Bloomfield confirmed post-match that the decision was made due to active transfer discussions.
“It was the right decision I made before the game… he’s had interest all summer,” said Bloomfield.
The move will bring to an end a three-year stay at Kenilworth Road for Doughty, who joined the Hatters from Stoke City in 2022. He made a strong impression in his first two campaigns, playing a key role in Luton’s promotion to the Premier League in 2022/23 before featuring regularly in the top flight.
Despite suffering relegation and then struggling with injury last season, Doughty still racked up 27 appearances across all competitions and provided an attacking threat from the left.
Millwall are expected to use the pacey wide man in a more advanced role than he occupied at Luton, with Neil reportedly viewing him as a key part of the club’s plans in the final third.
The Lions are continuing to invest heavily this summer, having already broken their transfer record to land striker Josh Coburn from Middlesbrough. Doughty’s arrival would be viewed as another statement signing as Millwall aim to return to the top six.
