Reading FC are considering a move for experienced striker Jack Marriott as Noel Hunt looks to address his side’s lack of firepower before the close of the summer transfer window.
The Royals have endured a tough start to the 2025/26 League One campaign, collecting just one point from their opening four games and scoring only twice in the process. Hunt has just one natural centre-forward available in loanee Mark O’Mahony, and supporters have made clear their desire for attacking reinforcements.
According to Football League World, Reading are exploring a deal for Marriott, who finds himself out of favour at Wrexham following the club’s club-record £10m move for Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town. The Red Dragons also boast significant depth in attack, with Sam Smith – formerly of Reading – among their options after joining in January.
Marriott, 30, signed for Wrexham in February 2024 and scored four times in nine appearances to help them seal promotion from League One last season. Across his career, he has built a strong reputation as a reliable forward, particularly in League One, while also enjoying spells in the Championship. His standout campaign remains 2017/18, when he netted 27 goals in 44 matches for Peterborough United.
Having represented Ipswich Town, Gillingham, Luton Town, Peterborough, Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday, Fleetwood Town and Wrexham, Marriott brings a wealth of EFL experience. Reading hope his pedigree could provide a much-needed boost in their fight to climb the table.
